Basic Fire Safety Training Course | Half Day | Knutsford & UK
For every employee who needs to know what to do when the alarm sounds.
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires every employer to provide adequate fire safety training for all staff. This is a legal duty, not simply a box to tick, and it places real responsibility on businesses of every size. The most fundamental level of training is making sure every person on your premises can recognise a fire hazard, respond safely to an alarm, and support the evacuation of the building without putting themselves or colleagues at greater risk.
This half-day Basic Fire Safety course is designed to meet exactly that need. It covers the essential theory and practical skills every employee requires, without the extended content that designated Fire Wardens or Marshals also need. If your organisation needs both levels of training, our full-day Fire Warden course is the natural next step for those taking on that responsibility.
One important note: this course includes coverage of the Firexo range of extinguishers, alongside traditional CO2 and water types. Firexo units can tackle multiple fire classes with a single extinguisher. This is a significant development that many training providers do not yet include in their syllabus. If your team was last trained before Firexo became widely available, their extinguisher knowledge has a gap.
What You Will Learn
This course covers the following:
- The science of fire, including combustion, the fire triangle and how fire behaves
- The most common causes of fire in workplace environments
- How to identify and assess fire hazards and risks
- How fire and smoke spread through a building, and why this matters for decision-making
- What to do when you discover a fire or hear the alarm
- Emergency procedures, including roles, responsibilities and escape routes
- What to do if you are unable to evacuate immediately
- How fires are extinguished, and the principles behind suppression
- Fire extinguisher types and their correct uses, including the Firexo range
- Practical use of water and CO2 extinguishers under realistic conditions

Is This Course Right for You?
Basic Fire Safety is the right course for all employees who need general fire awareness and safe response training. It does not qualify a delegate as a Fire Warden or Fire Marshal. That role requires the additional content covered in the full-day Fire Warden course, which includes evacuation planning, PEEPs, zoning and fire risk assessment.
If you need to train a mixed group, with some attending as general staff and others as designated wardens, both courses can be delivered together as a private booking at your premises on the same day. Request a quote.
