Course Accreditations & Compliance

Which first aid course should I or my colleagues attend?

Selecting the correct course depends entirely on your specific workplace environment and total staff numbers. For low-hazard environments such as offices or retail shops with fewer than 25 employees, you generally only require an Appointed Person. If you employ between 25 and 50 people, an Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification is typically sufficient. However, for businesses with more than 50 staff members, a full First Aid at Work (FAW) course is legally required. High-risk environments, including construction or manufacturing sites, have much stricter thresholds and often require comprehensive FAW coverage even for smaller team sizes.

Why choose Chris Garland Training for first aid instead of St John Ambulance?

While large national providers are widely recognised, we offer a highly personalised, flexible, and cost-effective alternative. Our instructors bring extensive, real-world emergency experience to the classroom, ensuring our training remains practical rather than just a tick-box exercise. Furthermore, we intentionally cap our group sizes to guarantee interactive, engaging support for every single delegate. Choosing us means you receive premium, fully accredited training tailored directly to your operational needs, backed by responsive and agile customer service.

Additionally, partnering with a regional independent provider directly supports your corporate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) targets. Sourcing your compliance training locally helps lower your carbon footprint by reducing staff travel distances. Your investment also drives immediate social value, because we proudly donate a portion of our proceeds to three incredible organisations that we support. You can read the full breakdown of how your booking actively contributes to these vital causes on our dedicated Social Impact page.

What qualifications do your trainers have?

Every single member of our training team is fully qualified, comprehensively insured, and holds formal teaching credentials. Our core compliance courses are Ofqual-accredited and regulated through Qualifications Network UK (QNUK), while our bespoke training programs are thoroughly vetted and externally moderated to the exact same high standards.

Beyond their mandatory academic certifications, our instructors possess decades of combined real-world experience in the emergency services, healthcare, or specialist industrial sectors. Consequently, they teach from genuine practical history rather than simply reading text from a presentation slide.

What do terms like “Awards”, “Certificates”, and “Diplomas” actually mean?

These terms refer directly to the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and indicate the overall size and depth of a qualification based on a standardised credit system. An Award represents a concise course with an accumulated total of 1 to 12 credits. A Certificate indicates a more comprehensive level of study, requiring between 13 and 36 credits. Finally, a Diploma represents an extensive, long-term qualification that requires 37 or more credits to complete successfully. Certificates issued by Chris Garland Training for our non-Ofqual regulated courses follow this same standard.

How are age groups defined in first aid terms?

In medical and first aid protocols, age groups are clearly categorised to ensure patients receive the correct, safe physiological treatment.
– An infant is defined as a baby under 1 year old, covering the range from 0 to 1 years.
– The child category encompasses young people aged from 1 to 12 years old, while an adolescent is a young person aged from 13 to 18 years old based on the Resuscitation Council UK 2025 Guidelines.
– Finally, an adult is classified as anyone aged 18 years or older.
Understanding these specific distinctions is critical because resuscitation depths, rescue breath volumes, and choking protocols vary significantly between infants, children, adolescents, and adults.

Classroom Adjustments & Accessibility

I require reasonable adjustments for my course. How do you accommodate this?

Yes, we support all learners and keep our training fully accessible. Our team implements tailored accommodations for specific physical, learning, or medical requirements. We apply these adjustments during both classroom sessions and formal assessments. To see how we manage these requests, please review our Reasonable Adjustments and Special Considerations Policy. Alternatively, you can contact our support team directly before your course begins to discuss your needs in confidence.

I have severe allergies. Can I still attend a training course?

Absolutely. We take delegate safety seriously and routinely accommodate individuals with severe allergies. Please inform us of any specific medical conditions when you book your course. Consequently, this notification allows us to advise other candidates ahead of time. For instance, we can request a nut-free environment for that specific day. It also enables our team to adjust the classroom setup for you.

Can I bring my dog along to the course?

With the explicit exception of registered assistance or guide dogs, animals are not permitted inside our training venue. This policy allows us to maintain a completely hygienic environment, respect delegates who may suffer from severe pet allergies or phobias, and prevent any potential distractions during critical practical learning modules and assessments.

Can I bring my baby or toddler along to the course?

Infants and toddlers are warmly welcome on our dedicated Baby and Toddler First Aid sessions, which are specifically structured for parents, grandparents, and family carers. However, we kindly request that children do not attend our professional commercial or workplace compliance courses. This strict policy ensures that all professional delegates can focus entirely on their practical assessments and critical life-saving learning modules without any unnecessary classroom distractions.
