The course for those who carry the responsibility when the alarm sounds.
Fire Wardens and Fire Marshals are the named individuals responsible for ensuring a safe, complete evacuation whenever a fire alarm is activated. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the Responsible Person must ensure that designated wardens are properly trained. This means more than general fire awareness. It means being genuinely competent to manage people, equipment and communication under pressure.
Competence is the key word. A half-day course cannot produce a competent fire warden. Ours takes a full day, and the difference is meaningful. Delegates who complete this course understand not just what to do in a fire, but why. That understanding is what holds up when it actually matters.
This course is delivered by Fire Protection Association (FPA) members and includes the Firexo range of extinguishers alongside traditional CO2 and water types. If your wardens were trained by a provider that does not include Firexo, their knowledge has a gap.
Annual refresher training is strongly recommended. Wardens should renew their full qualification every three years. View refresher options.

- Hazards during and after a fire
- How fire and smoke spread through a building
- Backdraught: what it is, and how to recognise the warning signs
- Controlling fire risk through identification, prevention and mitigation
- Means of escape, including fire doors, exits, escape routes, travel distances, refuges and signage
- Phases and types of evacuation
- Planning and carrying out a safe evacuation
- Methods of fire detection and alarm signalling
- How fires are extinguished
- Fire extinguisher types and correct uses, including the Firexo range
- Practical use of water and CO2 extinguishers
- Common fixed firefighting systems
- Legal duties for fire safety management in the workplace
- Fire safety inspections
- Fire risk assessment principles
- Zoning
- General Emergency Evacuation Plans (GEEPs) and Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs)
- Your role as a Fire Warden, including day-to-day responsibilities, testing procedures and actions during an emergency
