Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace : Childcare Practitioners | E-Learning
Health and safety in a childcare setting means protecting two groups at once: the children and the staff.
A childcare environment presents a distinct set of health and safety challenges. The hazards that affect staff, including manual handling, slips and trips, infection risk and working with equipment, exist alongside the very different hazards facing the children in their care, including falling, choking, allergic reactions and environmental risks specific to an early years setting.
Generic health and safety training does not address either group’s needs with the specificity that early years professionals require. This Ofqual-accredited Level 2 course was developed specifically for childcare practitioners and filmed on location in an award-winning early years setting. As a result, the content reflects the real environment in which delegates work, not a hypothetical one.
The qualification is regulated by Qualifi, an Ofqual-regulated UK Awarding Organisation, and supports compliance with the health and safety requirements of the EYFS Statutory Framework, the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
What You Will Learn
- The legal framework: employer and employee duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, and the EYFS Statutory Framework requirements for health and safety

- Hazards specific to childcare environments, including floor surfaces, outdoor play areas, toys and equipment, and transition areas

It is good content, but needs updating with information about Covid and other Novo viruses.

Hi Catherine,
These aren’t typically covered in any Level 2 Health & Safety course, as they are specific infection issues that people have come to appreciate more in recent years. I’m always looking to improve our courses, and I’ll be discussing these points with our providers shortly. However, you may like to do our “COVID-19: Infection Prevention and Control for the Workplace” e-learning course, which is specifically designed to cover Corona virus, etc.
