Sustainable Compliance Training: Our Partnership with JUST ONE Tree
When you step into a Chris Garland Training classroom to learn a new skill, such as first aid, fire safety, or mental health awareness, you are training to protect human life. However, our corporate duty of care does not stop at the edge of the classroom. We believe that sustainable compliance training is the future of responsible business operations. Through our core philosophy of honest stewardship, we ensure that environmental restoration is an intrinsic part of our corporate journey.
That is why we choose contribution over compensation. We do not pay for distant carbon credits to cancel out our footprint. Instead, for every single candidate we train face-to-face, we proudly fund the planting of a native tree through our partnership with JUST ONE Tree.
To date, your corporate course bookings have allowed us to achieve some incredible, verified milestones together.

Our Environmental Scorecard: The Impact to Date
We believe in being forensic about our data. Thanks to the businesses and individuals who choose us as their social value training partner, our collective contributions have funded:
- 3,700+ Native Trees Planted: A thriving, growing forest spread across critical global reforestation zones.
- 45.6 Tonnes of CO₂ Sequestered: The volume of atmospheric carbon our funded trees remove and store safely every single year.
- 1,140 Tonnes of CO₂ Projected: The long-term environmental protection our trees will provide over the next 25 years as they grow to full maturity.
Who is JUST ONE Tree? Credentialed for Collective Good
JUST ONE Tree is an award-winning, UK-based non-profit Community Interest Company dedicated to removing carbon from the atmosphere and reversing global biodiversity loss. They operate under a strict legal asset lock, meaning all surplus funds must structurally go back into global environmental restoration. Because their operational model is incredibly lean, a remarkable 86% of all incoming donations go directly toward hands-on planting projects on land and in the oceans.
They are a certified social enterprise with Social Enterprise UK and the global People + Planet First network. Choosing a Community Interest Company (CIC) structure over a traditional charity model was a deliberate decision. This framework allows their leadership team to bypass slow, bureaucratic trustee boards, granting them the freedom to deploy capital and move swiftly when critical ecological needs arise.
Furthermore, their gold-standard operational ethics align perfectly with our commitment to corporate environmental responsibility, ensuring that every pound we contribute forms part of a trusted, globally audited movement recognised by the prestigious 1% for the Planet scheme.
Global Footprints: Where the Trees Take Root
When you support our partnership, you are funding a network of highly targeted ecological recovery points. JUST ONE Tree strategically places their projects in areas severely affected by deforestation to maximise climate and biodiversity impact. Their land-based planting frameworks span critical environments across:
- Madagascar, Indonesia, and Brazil
- Nepal, Mozambique, and Haiti
- Kenya, Argentina, and Peru
- Mexico, Zambia, and Bolivia
- Ecuador, Chile, and the vast mountain corridors of the Andes
By focusing heavily on these specific equatorial and vulnerable regions, the projects directly fight desertification, stabilise topsoil, and prevent rising temperatures from wiping out endangered local species.
Absolute Accountability: Overcoming Greenwashing
In the modern corporate world, greenwashing is a major concern for businesses looking for genuine environmental partners. To completely eliminate any doubts, we ensure our sustainable compliance training program is backed by rigorous, measurable actions.
All planting sites are continuously monitored and tracked using ground-level metrics. To maintain absolute transparency, the reforestation organisations themselves are fully audited by independent, elite third-party verification bodies. This includes direct operational oversight from Botanic Gardens Conservation International and the Department of Physical Geography at Stockholm University. When we tell you a tree has been planted on your behalf, it is backed by world-class academic and scientific verification.
Our Three Pillars of Social Responsibility
Our commitment to driving positive change does not stop at the treeline. As a multi-award-winning medical and safety training provider, we believe in safeguarding both our planet and the people living on it. We have built our corporate social responsibility initiatives around three essential pillars:
- Protecting the Oceans: Our membership with Surfers Against Sewage funds the direct removal of plastic and the protection of regional UK water networks.
- Restoring the Land: Our partnership with Just ONE Tree works to plant trees, establish kelp forests, and restore global mangrove canopies.
- Saving Lives on the Ground: Because we specialise in life-saving emergency care instruction, we also proudly support frontline medical services. A key portion of our initiative directly funds the emergency helicopter missions of the North West Air Ambulance Charity (keep an eye out for our upcoming feature blog post detailing their incredible rescue work).
Beyond the Forest: Regenerating Our Oceans
Our planet relies heavily on underwater ecosystems, and JUST ONE Tree is unique because their restoration work does not stop at the treeline. Exactly 3p out of every single pound donated is channeled directly into their marine conservation networks.
This micro-funding has allowed their underwater conservation partners to scale up from a tiny two-square-meter pilot test into massive half-hectare kelp restoration sites across Australia and the Philippines.
Furthermore, a significant portion of their coastal planting focuses on mangrove estuaries. Mangroves are an incredible climate asset, capturing up to four times more carbon than traditional land-based forests. Their complex underwater root structures also protect coastlines and serve as a vital natural nursery, sheltering roughly 75% of all tropical fish species.
Supporting Whole Systems: All 17 UN SDGs
One of the core reasons we chose JUST ONE Tree is that they understand that real restoration supports whole systems, not single issues. This holistic approach ensures our sustainable compliance training framework actively contributes to all 17 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Because of this structural impact, they are an official designated partner inside the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030).
Environmental recovery is deeply connected to human welfare, aligning directly with global goals for poverty alleviation, zero hunger, and clean water access. JUST ONE Tree partners exclusively with local planting networks, hiring and training villagers to care for the entire lifecycle of the forests. This direct employment provides agricultural education and a steady, sustainable income, shifting local economies away from deforestation and toward conservation.
On average, 55% of the international workforces employed across these projects are women. In places like Haiti, planting fruit-bearing cash crops like mango and papaya helps families establish long-term food security, pay for higher education, and bring vital resources back into their local communities.
Shaping the Next Generation: JUST ONE Tree Day
True sustainability requires long-term cultural change, which is why we are also massive advocates of their educational outreach. Through their flagship annual campaign, JUST ONE Tree Day, the organisation brings active environmental education directly into classrooms.
To date, this initiative has empowered over 246,000 children across 730 schools on four continents to become planet-conscious thinkers. It proves that small actions taken collectively can completely shift the future of our world.
Honest Stewardship in Action:
Every candidate who leaves our training centre with a certificate also leaves knowing that their course fee directly helped restore a marine ecosystem, fund a life-saving flight, or lift a family out of poverty.
