For many businesses, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability are mere buzzwords. Yet for others, they are deeply ingrained values that guide their operations, commitments, and community contributions. One such example of a business committed to giving back to the community is Chris Garland Training. Our commitment to making a positive change in society is evident from the strides we’ve made in sustainability, charity, and our work in the community.

Commitment to a Greener Future

For the environmentally conscious, it’s heartening to see a business take steps towards creating a greener planet. Chris Garland Training has made a substantial contribution in this area. Our business model ensures that a portion of every course fee contributes to a greener world. So far, our contributions have resulted in the planting of an impressive 2,106 trees through the Just One Tree initiative.

These trees do more than just beautify the landscape; they play a pivotal role in carbon sequestration. For the uninitiated, carbon sequestration refers to the process by which trees and plants absorb carbon dioxide during photosynthesis and store it. With the current global concerns surrounding increasing levels of CO2, these planted trees are expected to sequester approximately 25.95 tonnes of CO2 annually. Over the next 25 years, this could result in a remarkable 648.65 tonnes of CO2 being removed from the atmosphere. These numbers underscore the significance of our tree-planting initiative, spotlighting our genuine commitment to environmental conservation.

Tackling Plastic Pollution

Besides the trees, there’s another alarming environmental concern we are keen to impact – plastic pollution. With tons of plastic making its way to our seas and oceans, marine life and ecosystems are under constant threat. Recognising the urgency of this issue and working with Surfers Against Sewage, Chris Garland Training has taken significant strides to contribute to the removal of plastic from the UK’s seas. To date, we’ve funded the purchase of 42 reusable beach clean boxes. Each box equips 50 people with sacks, gloves, hand sanitiser, a first aid kit and much more, all of which can be reused multiple times. This means that the actual figure of how much rubbish we’ve helped to remove is impossible to calculate, but conservatively it’s a minimum of 3,149 kg. This endeavour not only helps in cleaning our seas, beaches, mountains and streets but also sets a precedent for other businesses to follow suit.

Supporting Lifesaving Efforts

In addition to environmental efforts, Chris Garland Training’s charitable endeavours have been commendable. We’ve made a significant difference in supporting the North West Air Ambulance. Through our contributions, we’ve funded a considerable 612.36 miles of flight for the service. The North West Air Ambulance, with its fleet of helicopters and response vehicles, provides rapid response to trauma and medical emergencies. This lifesaving service relies heavily on donations, and Chris Garland Training’s contribution ensures that those in dire need can get the swift medical attention they deserve.

And it’s not just an external focus. We constantly monitor our own impact.

Knowledge, Empowerment, Sustainability: The Vision and Commitment of Chris Garland Training

At Chris Garland Training, our mission is clear and profound: “Knowledge, Empowerment, Sustainability: Providing knowledge for personal growth and business success, while promoting sustainable practices that benefit people and the planet.” This isn’t just a statement; it’s a reflection of our unwavering commitment to uplift our community and environment, and it resonates through every course, every collaboration, and every contribution we make.

Every year, we renew our commitment to accessibility and inclusion, setting ambitious goals to ensure that our training reaches a wide spectrum of individuals, irrespective of their unique needs or challenges. This year, our focus on inclusion has achieved considerable progress, as highlighted below:

Discounts for Charities: We believe in giving back, and what better way to do so than by supporting the very institutions that serve our communities? Charities play an invaluable role, and to appreciate and assist their contributions, we offer a 10% discount to registered charities booking courses with us. So, if you represent a charity and are keen on expanding your knowledge base, do get in touch.

Language: While Ofqual regulated courses require teaching and examination in English, we’ve taken steps to make learning more inclusive. With Microsoft’s live translate tool we ensure that our non-English speaking learners aren’t left behind. We’re enhancing our course materials with subtitles, and in cases where they aren’t available, the live translate tool comes to the rescue, providing real-time subtitles. This accessibility extends to non-Ofqual regulated courses as well.

Hearing: We understand that the beauty of learning isn’t merely in the content but in its delivery. Hence, for our learners with hearing impairments, we’ve invested in a portable hearing loop system compatible with hearing aids featuring the Loop/T setting.

Building: Accessibility isn’t just a digital endeavour; it extends to our physical infrastructure. Our training centre has a wheelchair ramp at the entrance and a lift that provides easy access to the upper floor. We’ve ensured that both the ground and upper floors have toilets that are disabled-access friendly.

Menopause: At Chris Garland Training, we recognise that personal challenges can sometimes interfere with learning. This understanding has led us to develop our menopause policy. We’ve created a welfare bag filled with emergency essentials, offering support to women when they need it the most.

Reasonable Adjustments: Every learner is unique, and some may have specific learning needs. We encourage anyone with special learning requirements to contact us before booking. We are more than willing to explore and implement reasonable adjustments to aid your learning and assessment.
