Forest School First Aid (Blended Learning) Course
Managing risks in outdoor environments requires deep clinical knowledge. Standard workplace qualifications often fall short in remote wilderness locations. Therefore, our specialised Forest School First Aid (Blended Learning) path merges three critical regulatory frameworks into one profile. This format satisfies national compliance criteria while protecting your outdoor groups.
Statutory Compliance for Forest School First Aid (Blended Learning)
This course carries extensive multi-sector accreditation values. Specifically, it completely covers the full core syllabi for three distinct courses. These include Outdoor First Aid, Paediatric First Aid, and Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW). Consequently, both Ofsted and the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) accept this certification without reservation.
Leaders can satisfy multiple statutory duties through this single training window. However, you might prefer a traditional, entirely classroom-based path instead. In that case, you can review our standalone 3-day face-to-face Forest School First Aid course.
How the Forest School First Aid (Blended Learning) Timeline Works
Our delivery model optimises the extensive 20-hour curriculum into a flexible schedule. This design protects your staffing rotas and minimises time away from your setting:
- Phase 1: Online Pre-Learning (6 to 8 Hours): Study the theory modules at your own pace on any digital device. This interactive platform covers core legislation, outdoor anatomy, and wilderness hazard profiles. On completion, you receive an online certificate. We value eco-friendly practices, so you do not need to print this copy. Simply show the PDF or a screenshot on your mobile phone when you arrive. Alternatively, our team can check your status directly in our system.
- The Training Continuity Window: Awarding bodies require strict training continuity. You must complete the entire course within a maximum of 6 weeks. Therefore, do not start your online theory modules too early. Keep all your learning within 6 weeks of your face-to-face classroom date.
- Phase 2: Classroom Face-to-Face Training (2 Days): These interactive sessions run from 9:00am to 5:00pm. They combine presentation-led teaching with extensive practical mastery, mock outdoor scenarios, and final assessments.
Extreme Environment & Advanced Protocols
Our practical training modules adapt strictly to real-world wilderness emergencies. We also cover changing environmental hazards during these drills. For instance, you will master modified CPR protocols designed for drowning, avalanche burials, and lightning strikes. The curriculum also covers catastrophic bleeding management, hypovolaemic shock, suspension trauma, and Lyme disease tracking.
Our practical scenarios enforce comprehensive surveys across all age groups. Following current Resuscitation Council UK guidelines, you will practice vital skills. This includes skills for infants, children, adolescents, and adult casualties to cover your workplace requirements perfectly.
Comprehensive Course Syllabus
This intensive course covers an extensive array of life-saving topics. The modules ensure you remain competent across outdoor, childcare, and commercial settings:
- Assessment & Scene Management: The specific role of a Forest School first aider. Learn to manage safe outdoor scenes, obtain consent, and communicate effectively with casualties.
- Critical Life-Threatening Emergencies: Infant, child, and adult CPR techniques. Learn modified protocols for drowning, avalanche entrapment, and lightning strikes. Master complete AED operation, unresponsive casualties, and severe choking blockages.
- Trauma & Environmental Injuries: Treating major wounds, external bleeding, and catastrophic haemorrhages. Managing shock, hypovolaemic complications, and suspension trauma. Treating environmental burns, scalds, concussions, and suspected spinal or skeletal fractures.
- Acute Medical Conditions: Recognising and treating severe allergic reactions and anaphylaxis. Managing asthma attacks, diabetic emergencies, and epileptic or febrile seizures. Identifying meningitis symptoms, poisoning hazards, and treating eye, ear, or nose injuries.
- Outdoor Hazard Tracking: Identifying and managing wilderness-specific conditions. This includes monitoring for Lyme disease after tick bites and treating adder stings. Learn to manage hypothermia, heat stroke, and minor field injuries.
Attendance Continuity & Late Arrival Policy
Regulatory awarding bodies enforce strict contact-time criteria for multi-framework compliance certificates. You must arrive fully prepared for each interactive module. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late for any face-to-face day, we must turn you away. Consequently, you will immediately forfeit your course placement and all paid booking fees.
Classroom Schedule & Daily Breaks
We structure the face-to-face days to maximise your learning and comfort. The classroom days run promptly from 9:00am to 5:00pm. We recommend arriving at 8:45am to get seated and complete registration paperwork. The practical modules are intensive, so please allow for a potential 15-minute over-run.
We distribute approximately 1 hour of total rest breaks throughout each day. This balanced schedule keeps candidates fresh and focused:
- Morning: 15-minute scheduled coffee and comfort break.
- Lunchtime: 30-minute allocated break for lunch.
- Afternoon: 15-minute scheduled coffee and comfort break.
Assessment & Testing Criteria
We assess candidates across two distinct classroom components. These rules apply regardless of your chosen certification route:
- Multiple-Choice Question Paper: You sit a formal theory exam paper during your course. You must score a minimum of 70% correct answers to pass.
- Continuous Practical Observation: Our instructor assesses your hands-on techniques throughout the day. You must demonstrate life-saving procedures accurately. Act exactly as you would in a real wilderness emergency, requiring a 100% pass mark.
Certification & Add-On Level 3 Credentials
We provide flexible certification pathways to match your specific needs. Our default path issues digital PDF credentials through Chris Garland Training. These remain valid for 3 years. Alternatively, you can select an externally validated, QNUK Ofqual-regulated certificate for an additional fee.
Do you need independent verification for distinct workplace roles? Upon request, we can issue separate, standalone Level 3 certificates. These cover Emergency First Aid at Work, Paediatric First Aid, and Outdoor First Aid. We apply a nominal administrative charge for these extra printings.
Course Prerequisites & Age Requirements
Please ensure all attendees meet these physical and educational criteria before your practical block:
- Online Completion: You must completely finish your 6 to 8 hours of online pre-learning theory modules before arriving.
- Physical Capability: You must be physically capable of demonstrating floor-level procedures on training manikins. This includes kneeling to perform continuous techniques in simulated outdoor conditions to pass.
- Language Requirement: We conduct all training and assessment papers strictly in English. You need a functional level of English to take the course. We recommend GCSE Grade C or Level 2 literacy as a baseline. Candidates are welcome to bring a physical paper translation dictionary.
- Age Parameters: This course suits anyone aged 16 or over who wants nominated outdoor first aider duties. We welcome candidates aged 14 to 16. They receive a valid certificate upon passing but cannot be a sole responsible person.
Candidate Numbers & Group Parameters
We maintain strict educational safety standards to ensure every student receives dedicated tutor feedback. Therefore, we operate clear participant thresholds:
- Minimum Group Size: We require a baseline of 6 candidates to run an open course or private session. If fewer register, we will contact you 48 hours before the start date to discuss options.
- Maximum Group Size: Awarding organisations limit us strictly. We allow a maximum of 12 candidates per instructor to maintain safe tracking dynamics.
- Larger Corporate Teams: We can easily bring a second qualified assessor into the classroom to accommodate your team. This service depends on calendar availability and requires an extra fee.
