Paediatric First Aid Course | 2-Day Face-to-Face
Standard workplace first aid courses often fall short during infant medical emergencies. Younger casualties present unique anatomical challenges. Because of this, Ofsted and the EYFS enforce strict safety rules. Our comprehensive two-day course satisfies these legal duties perfectly. It protects children while building genuine operational confidence.
Statutory Compliance & Early Years Frameworks
Childcare providers need active safety planning to meet their legal duty of care. The current EYFS framework enforces clear rules. For example, early years settings must keep a qualified first aider on site at all times. This individual must be available whenever children are present.
Additionally, a qualified first aider must accompany children on all off-site outings. These strict ratio regulations also apply to Level 2 and Level 3 staff. Childcare apprentices and placement students must also hold a certificate. Otherwise, you cannot count them in your statutory staff-to-child ratios.
Our qualification is fully regulated and meets all DfE criteria. Both Ofsted and the ISI accept it without reservation. If you prefer a hybrid delivery style instead, you can review our alternative blended learning paediatric course.
How the 2-Day Training Timeline Works
We deliver this traditional qualification through immersive classroom interaction. The curriculum provides a deep dive into infant and child care over two consecutive days:
- 12 Guided Learning Hours: Regulatory bodies demand a minimum of 12 contact hours. Our expert trainer guides you through every module in person. This time covers your assessment profiles and excludes rest breaks.
- Self-Directed Study: The awarding bodies recommend an additional four hours of independent self-study. This material helps reinforce your theoretical understanding of early years emergency systems.
Clinical Standards & Paediatric Age Categories
Our training modules align strictly with the latest life-saving guidelines. You will master specific resuscitation adjustments across different early years demographics. Following current Resuscitation Council UK guidelines, you will practice vital skills. This includes skills for infants, children, and adolescents to ensure total care coverage.
Comprehensive Course Syllabus
This traditional classroom course maps extensively across a wide array of child care emergencies. You will spend two days mastering the complete statutory curriculum in person:
- Assessment & Scene Management: The specific role and legal responsibilities of a paediatric first aider. Learn to evaluate emergency situations, prevent cross-infection, and maintain accurate records.
- Critical Life-Threatening Emergencies: Infant, child, and adolescent CPR techniques. Master complete AED operation, clearing delicate airways, managing choking blockages, and the recovery position.
- Trauma, Wounds & Severe Injuries: Treating major external bleeding and shock. Learn the initial management for suspected fractures, sprains, dislocations, concussions, and domestic burns safely.
- Acute Medical Conditions & Illnesses: Recognising allergic reactions and using an auto-injector during anaphylaxis. Learn to manage asthma, diabetic emergencies, and critical meningitis symptoms.
- Early Years Conditions: Identifying and safely supporting an infant experiencing a febrile seizure or an epileptic seizure. Learn to manage childhood fevers and severe dehydration safely.
Attendance Continuity & Late Arrival Policy
Awarding bodies enforce strict contact-time criteria for statutory certificates. You must arrive fully prepared for each interactive module. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late for either day, we must turn you away. As a result, you will forfeit your place and all paid booking fees.
Classroom Schedule & Daily Breaks
We structure the face-to-face modules to maximise your learning and comfort. The course covers a large amount of vital, life-saving curriculum. Therefore, the training runs promptly from 9:30am to 5:00pm each day. We provide one hour of total rest breaks to keep candidates fresh and focused:
- Morning: 15-minute scheduled coffee and comfort break.
- Lunchtime: 30-minute allocated break for lunch.
- Afternoon: 15-minute scheduled coffee and comfort break.
Assessment & Testing Criteria
We assess candidates across two distinct classroom components. These rules apply regardless of your chosen certification route:
- Theory Paper: You sit a summative exam at the end of the course, requiring a 70% score to pass.
- Practical Observation: Our instructor evaluates your hands-on techniques throughout the day. You must demonstrate floor-level CPR accurately, requiring a strict 100% pass mark.
Certification Options Explained
We offer two distinct certification routes for this qualification. Both options carry the exact same legal validity, standing, and industry recognition. You will watch the same presentation and practice the same skills. We hold every student to the same high standard. The only difference lies in the final exam papers.
Our default option issues digital PDF certificates through Chris Garland Training. Alternatively, you can select an Ofqual regulated certificate for an additional fee. Both qualifications remain valid for three years.
Course Prerequisites & Age Requirements
Please ensure all attendees meet these requirements before arriving at our training centre:
- Physical Capability: You must be physically capable of demonstrating floor-level procedures on paediatric manikins. This includes kneeling to perform continuous CPR to pass.
- Language Requirement: We hold all assessments and exam papers in English. You need a functional level of literacy to take the course. We recommend a GCSE baseline. Candidates can bring a paper translation dictionary.
- Age Parameters: This course suits anyone aged 16 or over who wants to become a workplace first aider. We also welcome candidates aged 14 to 16. They receive a valid certificate but cannot be a sole responsible person.
Candidate Numbers & Group Parameters
We maintain strict educational safety standards. To ensure every student receives dedicated tutor feedback, we operate clear participant thresholds:
- Minimum Group Size: We require a baseline of 4 candidates to run a scheduled open public course or a private group session.
- Maximum Group Size: Awarding organisations limit us strictly. We allow a maximum of 12 candidates per instructor to maintain safe tracking dynamics.
- Larger Corporate Teams: We can easily bring a second qualified assessor into the classroom to accommodate your team. This service depends on calendar availability and requires an additional fee.
Venues & Private Corporate Training

Hi,
Following feedback from the staff who attended our recent Paediatric First Aid course I just wanted to pass on their comments.
They said the course was very possibly the best 1st aid training they had undertaken in many years and that the instructor, Jayne, was fantastic – informative, helpful and made the staff feel at ease. I know that all too often people are very quick to complain when something is not right, but often don’t acknowledge when something is done well – so thanks again, both to you and Jayne!.
Kind regards
Jude
