Introduction to Dignity and Privacy: Online
Dignity and privacy are not aspirational values in care. They are legal and professional requirements.
The Care Act 2014 and the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 both place dignity at the heart of what regulated care must deliver. The Care Quality Commission uses compliance with dignity and respect as a fundamental standard when inspecting registered providers. For anyone working in a social care setting, understanding what dignity and privacy mean in practice is not optional.
This CPD-approved course begins by defining dignity and privacy as they are understood within health and social care, and explores how the two concepts are frequently connected. It then moves into practical application: what it looks like to treat a service user with dignity in a range of everyday care situations, the professional practices that protect privacy, and the issues that arise when dignity and privacy are not properly respected.
