Evacuation Chairs Train-the-Trainer Course

(1 customer review)

Many workplaces choose to install evacuation chairs as a means of assisting those less able to evacuate the premises during an emergency. Where they’re installed, there need to be sufficient numbers of staff trained in using the equipment, while official UK Government guidance also states that the “training provided should include disability awareness, disability evacuation etiquette, and moving, lifting and handling techniques”. That’s exactly what you’ll be able to deliver at the end of this course.

Our one day Evacuation Chair Operator & Assistant Train the Trainer course is specifically designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills required to run in-house training for your colleagues.

The course was interesting and informative. We were given good information regarding the different types of chair available and tried out three different designs during the practical which did highlight that all have their limitations, especially on narrow stairwells, and that all types require a team of two people to use them safely and facilitate the safe evacuation of the disabled person. The fact that the evac chair should be used as a ‘one person one way’ rescue device was also highlighted, so in many situations multiple chairs and two person operator teams will be required. A section on the requirement for maintenance and testing under PUWER was included.
The end of course assessment was a short but to the point, very similar in format to the asbestos awareness assessment. All in all a valuable course and quite enjoyable.
