Wound Closure Course (Half Day)
The skills to assess and close a wound correctly, without referring every minor injury onward.
For anyone working in pre-hospital care, the ability to assess a wound properly and close it using the right method, not just any method, is a genuinely valuable skill. This half-day course gives you both the underpinning theory and the hands-on practice to do exactly that. It focuses on three of the most commonly used non-suturing closure methods: wound closure strips, surgical adhesive and staples.
This course is led by a highly experienced A&E nurse. It includes practical sessions using suturing training pads and, when available, pig trotters, giving you realistic tissue to work with rather than synthetic pads alone.
Free gift: every delegate receives their own suturing kit, including a suturing training pad and a selection of tools, to take home and continue practising after the course.
What You Will Learn
- Anatomy and physiology relevant to wound healing
- Wound assessment: what to look for, and how to decide on the appropriate closure method
- Irrigation technique
- The use of local anaesthetic
- When to refer to a specialty rather than close a wound yourself
- Closure methods, including:
- Wound closure strips (for example, Steri-Strips)
- Skin adhesive (surgical glue)
- Staples

David Nicoll –
Great to learn and practice Wound Closure skills. I was already pretty comfortable with Steri-strips, but it was very useful to practice with skin glue and staples. I’ll definitely be back for the suturing element once I’m at a high enough medical grade.
ChrisGarland –
