If you live or work in England, you may be able to apply for grant funding to cover the full cost of short, practical training courses from the Forestry Commission.
The funding is for people considering a change of career, or seeking to build and diversify their skills in forestry and arboriculture skills and who want to undertake a forestry-related or arboriculture-related training course.

August 2024: Having reopened for grant applications at the end of July, the available funding was allocated within 3 weeks of the fund reopening for grant claims this financial year.
The fund managers advise that “all funding has now been allocated and will only be available should funding not be taken up by those we have made offers to.”
It might still be worth you submitting a grant application claim as these are normally funded on a first-come-first-served basis, and if people don’t use their grant, the money will be offered to the next in line.
