Our Forest School First Aid (Blended Learning) course is run as a blended learning course (6-8 hours online pre-learning, 2 days face-to-face).

 

The course is specifically designed for leaders and assistants who are to be relied upon as first aiders during forest school, beach school, etc, sessions when help is up to 2 hours away.

 

Don’t let the name put you off – this is the most in-depth first aid course that we offer which is why it takes over 20 hours to complete! Have a look at the video below for further information.

Our Forest School First Aid (Blended Learning) course is run as a blended learning course (6-8 hours online pre-learning, 2 days face-to-face). The course is specifically designed for leaders and assistants who are to be relied upon as first aiders during forest school, beach school, etc, sessions when help is up to 2 hours away.

Course syllabus includes:

  • Health & Safety legislation with regards to first aid
  • Understanding the role & responsibility of the first-aider, including:
    • managing incidents
    • gathering & using available equipment
    • the importance of preventing cross infection
    • the need for recording incidents and actions
  • First aid kits & their contents
  • Infection control & PPE
  • Ofsted accident reporting
  • Managing an unresponsive casualty when assistance is up to 2 hours away
  • When and how to remove outdoor activity equipment
  • When and how to move a casualty
  • Environmental factors in outdoor first aid
  • Emergency shelters & signalling
  • How to assess an emergency situation in order to act safely, promptly and effectively
  • Recognising & administering first aid, including primary and secondary surveys, to infant, child or adult casualty who is/has;
    • unresponsive & breathing normally (recovery position)
    • unresponsive & not breathing normally (CPR & use of Defibrillator)
    • modifications to CPR for those who’ve drowned, been caught in an avalanche or hit by lightning strike

Test:

  • Your practical assessment is where you demonstrate giving first aid as you would in an emergency situation. This will include providing CPR to a training manikin on the floor.
  • You will also undertake a multiple-choice question paper.

Certificate in Forest School First Aid:

  • There are two options available for the Forest School First Aid course, with one costing slightly more than the other. Ultimately there is no difference in the validity of either, but some people prefer to choose one over the other. You will see the same presentation, be assessed on the same practical skills & to the same degree.
  • As the Forest School First Aid course also covers the syllabus of three other courses, successful candidates may also purchase the following certificates should you wish or your employer require them*;
    • Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) – this is the 6 hour course
    • Paediatric First Aid (RQF) – this is the 12 hour course
    • Outdoor First Aid (RQF) – aka the 16 hour outdoor first aid course

Pre-requisites; Forest School First Aid (blended learning) course:

  • Age:
    • The Forest School First Aid (blended learning) course is for those over 16 who are looking to become a nominated first aider in an outdoor setting.
    • The course can also be undertaken by candidates between 14 & 16 years old, but they shouldn’t be relied upon by employers to be a sole, nominated first aider.
  • Prior knowledge:
    • No previous knowledge/experience required as all training is covered during the online pre-learning and face-to-face sessions.
  • Comprehension:
    • We recommend that you have a minimum of GCSE grade C/Level 2 literacy and numeracy (or equivalent) before undertaking this course. This is not mandatory – please contact us to discuss any reasonable adjustments to accommodate your needs.
  • Physical ability:
    • You’ll need to demonstrate first aid procedures as you would in a real activity environment. This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor. Therefore you must be physically capable of doing this before attending the course.

 

How many people will be on the course?

Minimum: 6 candidatesWe need a minimum of 6 candidates for the course to run. Where fewer than 6 are booked on to the course, we will cancel the course 48 hours before it is due to start. In this unlikely case, we will contact you to discuss transferring your booking to another date or to issue a refund.
