Safeguarding Adults | E-Learning
Every adult has the right to be safe, healthy and treated with respect. Safeguarding is how we protect that right.
Safeguarding adults is the collective responsibility to protect people who, because of age, disability, illness or other circumstances, may be less able to protect themselves from abuse, neglect or exploitation. It is not a task that belongs only to social workers or designated leads. Everyone who works with or supports adults at risk plays a part.
The Care Act 2014 places a statutory duty on local authorities to lead the adult safeguarding system, and on a wide range of organisations, including health, care, housing and the voluntary sector, to cooperate in that system. The first step in meeting that duty is ensuring that staff understand what adult abuse is, how to recognise it, and what to do when they have a concern.
