Appeals Policy

At A Glance:

This policy explains how learners can appeal assessment outcomes, certification decisions, or reasonable adjustment requests for Chris Garland Training courses. It outlines a clear 4-stage process starting with informal discussions, moving to a formal review, and escalating to awarding organisations or Ofqual where needed. You can submit a formal written appeal to the Director within 14 calendar days of receiving your decision.

Appeals Policy & Procedure

Approved by Chris Garland, Director | Last reviewed: August 2026

Purpose

This policy gives learners and interested parties a clear way to appeal our decisions. You can appeal assessment results, certification, reasonable adjustments, special consideration, or any decision affecting a regulated qualification or Chris Garland Training certificate.

Scope

You can appeal against decisions involving any of these areas:

  • Assessment outcomes and competence results
  • Reasonable adjustment or special consideration requests
  • Malpractice or maladministration findings
  • Any decision affecting your qualification or certificate award

Stages of Appeal

Stage 1: Informal Resolution

First, raise your concerns informally with your trainer, assessor, or the Director. We resolve most issues quickly through open discussion at the time of your assessment.

Stage 2: Formal Appeal to the Company

If we do not resolve the matter informally, you can submit a formal written appeal to the Director. Send your appeal within 14 calendar days of the decision or informal response, and include your supporting evidence. Then, the Director (or an impartial investigator) will review your case and send you a written decision, normally within 20 working days.

Stage 3: Escalation to the Awarding Organisation

If you feel unhappy with our written decision and you took a regulated qualification, you can escalate your appeal to the Awarding Organisation. You must follow their published procedure and timescales.

Stage 4: Escalation to Ofqual

Finally, if you take a regulated qualification in England, you can contact Ofqual (the qualifications regulator).
