Manual Handling Training
The most common workplace injury. One of the most preventable.
Musculoskeletal disorders, such as back injuries, shoulder strains and repetitive strain injuries, account for around a third of all workplace injuries reported to the HSE each year. Most are linked to manual handling: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or supporting loads. The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 require employers to avoid hazardous manual handling where reasonably practicable, to assess the risk of any unavoidable operations, and to reduce that risk, including through training.
This course helps delegates understand why and how manual handling injuries occur, how to assess manual handling tasks using the TILE risk assessment framework (Task, Individual, Load, Environment), and how to apply safe technique in practice, not just in theory.
Poor manual handling technique is often invisible until an injury occurs. At that point, the cost in human terms, in absence, and in potential enforcement action, is far higher than the cost of proper training.
