Critical Injury Responder Course (8 hours)
Our Critical Injury Responder course is ideal for those working in the UK or abroad in high risk or hostile environments, such as security staff, arborists, construction & forestry workers, expedition leaders and companies who feel their staff would benefit from this type of training. It’s also a perfect CPD course for existing first aid instructors, complimenting the new BS8599-1:2019 compliant Critical Injury First Aid kits which are now standard across the UK. You may not have seen or heard of these kits before, but trust me, they’re already out there, in hundreds of venues across the UK, wherever large number of people gather.
The information in this course is based on the latest Position & Consensus Statements from bodies such as the Faculty of Pre-hospital Care, The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Recent changes made to first aid training syllabus requirements have lead to the reintroduction in teaching the use of tourniquets and haemostatic agents in some first aid courses. This has been reinforced with the introduction of British Standard BS8599-1:2019, which you can read more about here. You do not need to have attended a first aid course to attend this course, but it will significantly develop your knowledge and understand if you have been on one in the past. At the end of the course, you’ll understand & potentially be able to administer lifesaving treatment to those injured in traumatic incidents, before the arrival of the emergency services.
This is a very hands-on course, during which you will get several hours of practical experience. By its very nature, this course covers topics which some might find distasteful or disturbing including catastrophic bleeds.
Critical Injury Responder Course syllabus includes:
- The vascular system & blood volumes
- The primary and secondary casualty survey
- TST & MITT (“Ten Second Triage” & Mass Incident Triage Tool)

Leslie Singleton –
Great course, from a very knowledgeable trainer, put across in a manner that was both fun and easy to understand. Thank you for an informative and interesting day.
ChrisGarland –
Hi Leslie. Thank you for your great review. Hope to see you on another course soon.
Val H. –
Do Not get an IFAK until you have been on this course! Here you not only get to learn about applying haemostatic agents, tourniquets and chest seals you also get to compare them, so you can know what works best. Also how to recognise Fakes. If you are concerned about how you would respond to severe motorbike and car accidents when travelling; or acid or knife attacks whilst you are out on the town this course will give you a great advantage. If you visit football stadiums, shopping centres, theatres, restaurants or clubs this course should be high on your ‘to-do’ list and will give you the skills needed to deal with a serious injury or terrorist attack. If someone throws you a Critical Injury First Aid Kit because the area is in a security lockdown, or the ambulances are stuck in traffic THIS is the course you need to make sense of it. Just because its serious, doesn’t mean you can’t have fun when learning. If some bits hit a bit too close to home, there is always the option of stepping away for a moment and no one will think the less of you for that. This course equips you for Life in a sometimes difficult world because it equips you to Save a Life not just a selfie. Thanks Chris for a great and memorable day.

Hi Val. Wow! What a fantastic review; thank you very much . I’m so glad that you enjoyed the course so much. Hopefully none of us will ever have to use the skills that we covered on the course.
Best regards
Chris
Kenneth M. –
Really happy with the Critical injury responder course. Chris is a genuine guy with alot of knowledge and really looks after everyones individual needs. The course its self equips you with the knowledge to save a life in many different scenarios. I’d suggest anyone take the course as no one knows what’s going to happen day by day. You never know when you’ll be the first responder!
ChrisGarland –
Hi Ken.
Thank you for your kind review. Nobody would ever want to find themselves in the “rescue vacuum”, but if you were to find yourself there now, at least you’ll have a good amount of knowledge of what you can do to help those injured and awaiting professional help.
Best regards
Chris
