Our British Judo Approved Basic First Aid for Judo Course is for existing and prospective Judo coaches who need to undertake a basic first aid course.

Following successful completion of the course and assessments, the learner will receive the following course certificate which is valid for 3 years:

Our basic first aid for judo course is for existing and prospective Judo coaches who need to undertake a basic first aid course approved by the British Judo Association/Council.

British Judo Approved Basic First Aid Course syllabus includes:

  • Health & Safety legislation with regards to first aid
  • Understanding the role & responsibility of the first-aider, including:
    • managing incidents
    • gathering & using available equipment
    • the importance of preventing cross infection
    • the need for recording incidents and actions
  • First aid kits & their contents
  • How to assess an emergency situation in order to act safely, promptly and effectively
  • Recognising & administering first aid to a casualty who is/has;
    • unresponsive & breathing normally (recovery position)
    • unresponsive & not breathing normally (CPR & use of Defibrillator)
    • the difference between a heart attack and a cardiac arrest
    • choking
    • wounded and bleeding
    • small cuts, grazes and bruises
    • small splinters
    • minor burns and scalds
    • having a seizure
    • suffering medical shock
  • Concussion
    • What is concussion & how does it affect us?
    • Second Impact Syndrome
    • Concussion guidance protocols & pitch-side assessment
    • Graduated return to play protocols for adults
    • Graduated return to school & play protocols for children
    • Post-Concussion Syndrome

British Judo Approved Basic First Aid Certificate:

  • Valid for 3 years.

Course duration:

  • 6 guided learning hours.

Test:

  • Practical assessments throughout the course.

British Judo Approved Basic First Aid Course Pre-requisites:

  • You will be required to demonstrate first aid procedures as you would in a real activity environment. This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore you must be physically capable of doing so.
  • It is recommended that you have a minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or equivalent.
  • This Basic First Aid for Judo course is aimed at those over 16 who are looking to undertake the responsibilities associated with being a nominated first aider. The course can also be undertaken by candidates between 14 & 16 years old, but they shouldn’t be relied upon by employers to be a sole, nominated first aider.

Candidates:

  • All courses have a minimum and maximum number of candidates that we can take on a course.
    • Minimum: We need a minimum of 4 candidates booked on an open/scheduled course for the course to run. Click here for more details.
    • Maximum: We are limited by the Health & Safety Executive, and where applicable by the Awarding Organisation, to a maximum of 12 candidates per instructor. Should you have more than 12 candidates that need to be trained, please contact us to arrange a private course, where by negotiation, we can arrange for a second instructor/assessor to be present to comply with this restriction.

Geographical coverage:

  • Our Basic First Aid for Judo course is available to candidates throughout the UK.
  • The course can be delivered in other countries however the course content has been developed in accordance with current UK practice.

Venue:

  • Scheduled courses run at our training centre in Knutsford, Cheshire.

    Fantastic course: sport-specific first aid essentials giving me the confidence that I would be able to I safely and effectively care for my players in an emergency situation. The course was well paced and expertly delivered with plenty of opportunities to practice essential concepts in a safe and welcoming training environment. Definitely recommmended!

Private course booking

We’re more than happy to run a private course for you at either our training centre or at your venue. Simply fill in this form and we’ll get back to you soon;


We offer both bespoke & Ofqual Accredited courses; the main difference being cost, with Ofqual Accredited courses costing slightly more than Bespoke courses.
*Please note that some courses are bespoke to Chris Garland Training, and as such cannot be certified by the Ofqual Regulated Awarding Organisation. Where this is the case, you will be informed of this in your quotation.

Rooms should be suitably lit, with adequate heating & ventilation. There should be a sufficient number of chairs for each candidate and the instructor.

Please note that all courses have a maximum of 12 candidate places per instructor, except the Evacuation Chair User & Operator Course which has a maximum of 8 candidate places per instructor. If you have additional candidates to attend the course, we can either run an additional course at the same time, or arrange for a separate course to be held on a second date.
